Enabling the ability to change file associations (Citrix)

When attempting to change a file association in a Citrix enviroment going through “File Options” in the control panel sometimes you find the radio buttons are greyed. To be able to change this you need to do the following registry hack. If the buttons are still greyed out after changing the registry logoff then back in. Remember that depending what you are doing you may need to place the citrix server in install mode… just beware.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\NoFileAssociate

If NoFileAssociate is there with REG_DWORD value 1 change it to 0.

It could also be applied at the user level. Look at the HKCU key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Hi, we are using VMware View 4 with persistent clones and the same issue is happenning here. We are not Administartors on our View Clients and have the File Type options greyed out – above registry fix did not resolve issues even after a reboot. Help!?

I personally (or professionally) do not use vmware view, but from my understanding if your using linked persistent clones the snapshot needs to be changed. If I were you I would contact the admin and let them know because they would have the proper rights and ability to make the changes and create a new snapshot to link to. Sorry I cant be more help but my knowledge on VDI is not to extensive.

  3. I definitely don’t think I could ever keep up with managing a blog like yours! Magnificent job and I absolutely would like to see you keep up with it for a long time.
